just a thought

buenas noches chicas :)

i am sitting at home, playing on facebook, procrastinating and wondering why i can not make myself write these two essays for the application for an internship that i (so i proclaim) reeeeally really want.
and then i was reading the news paper online and i came across this and i just want to share it because it just put me in my place.

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/03/09/us/090309_motels/index.html

i know how hard times are for some of us right now and for so many millions of others, too. and i know that everyone has a different experience of the world, the economy, etc. right now. some of you may not even notice or have real concern about what is happening to, basically, the world right now.

and here at home, here in phi mu, we are so quick to get upset about little things, to judge people when we really do not need to, to get angry or gossip about things or people when we do not know the facts, to make little issues BIG issues when they maybe do not need to be BIG issues, to create problems that may not in fact need to even be problems.

and we are so lucky, you guys. we are so lucky because we have each other and we have such great opportunities and adventures ahead of us. and of course there are things to get upset about, things to worry about, things to be angry about. i just want us to value the things that we do have and create more good things, for ourselves and for each other.

if you watched that video, and you should, you will hopefully know where i am trying to go with this because i may just be rambling...

i just want us, as a sorority and as a sisterhood, to be a family as best as we can because sometimes, family is all you've got. and most of the time, it is what really matters :)

check out this video. it is slightly sappy but pretty cool. nothing like bec's videos, but probably something cheesy that you would expect from me.

mmm we love phi mu

yes, i promise to write in here more than once...

i'm glad that people are taking a liking to this blog idea :)

fun things that are going on:

- congratulations to Katherine Joy and Robin Quattlebaum, who are now on the Student Foundation Board of Trustees!

- want to make a difference in a little kids life? be a part of our Angel Tree and we can make one more little one happy this christmas :) no matter how much or little you want to give, everything is appreciated. i will collect money starting NEXT WEEK!
i am super excited because this is my favorite thing to do during the holidays :)

- want to do Secret Santa with your pledge class? starting next week, there will be boxes on the front table. find the one with your pledge class, write your name on a piece of paper, put it in the box, and that is it. i will let you know who you have after that. we will give prezzies out at holiday party on December 4! woohoo this is super fun, and the gift does not need to exceed $20 - $25, just be thoughtful and creative :)

if you guys have anything exciting happening in your lives, tell me so i can brag about you on here! nothing embarassing, just pure fun and happiness.

welcome!

hello phi mu! :)

and welcome to my newest creation. as sisterhood development chair (not even for a whole 24 hours...), i am enacting my newest "activity", so to speak. my mom actually came up with this idea so i have to give her credit for it, but i love it so i am making it my own.

i've decided to keep a blog about phi mu and all our happenings. almost like a newsletter, except way more frequent and tree-friendly. i will put sister spotlights in here with possibly more information than can fit on a poster, fun pictures of you all (like bec's great idea to have a picture-of-the-week at chapter), anything exciting that is going on with anyone and everyone, etc! so basically like a compilation of chapter and gin and newsletters and whatever you all tell me in one online resource. how exciting!

as my first announcement, i will congratulate our NEW EXEC:

president - meg
vp of operations - inez
vp of development - bec
recruitment - kate
panhellenic - lindsay
social - stacy
secretary - amy
treasurer - ?
phi director - caitlin
sisterhood - adina

please comment on any post or picture or announcement or anything that makes you smile :)

lots of lovies,
adina
